This compact safari offers an extraordinary double primate experience—trekking mountain gorillas in Bwindi and golden monkeys in Mgahinga. Designed for travelers with limited time, it blends breathtaking forest adventures with cultural encounters while staying at comfortable midrange lodges.
Your driver-guide will pick you up early in Kampala or Entebbe. Begin the scenic 8–9 hour journey southwest, stopping at the Equator for photos and a coffee break. Continue through rolling hills, tea plantations, and local markets before lunch in Mbarara. Arrive at Bwindi in the evening and check into Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge (Midrange), where you’ll enjoy forest views, a warm dinner, and a relaxed evening.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing by rangers. With guides and trackers, you’ll hike through Bwindi’s thick jungle in search of a habituated gorilla family. Trekking may take 2–6 hours, but the reward is unforgettable: one magical hour observing gorillas feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. After your trek, return to the lodge for hot lunch and relaxation. Evening optional activity: visit the Batwa pygmy community to learn about their forest traditions.

After breakfast, transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (approx. 1.5 hours). Begin a guided trek into the bamboo forests to track golden monkeys, a playful and endangered primate unique to the Virungas. The trek usually lasts 3–4 hours and offers chances to see forest birds and breathtaking volcanic scenery. Return for lunch in Kisoro and later drive back to your lodge near Bwindi.
Accommodation: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge / Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge (Midrange)
Enjoy breakfast and then begin your return journey. Stop at Igongo Cultural Centre for lunch and explore the museum (optional). Cross the Equator again before reaching Kampala or Entebbe in the evening.
